Today, I received a bill from Westfield Hospital for when I went to them back in April for a back injury. They had already billed me for my portion of the bill and so I thought it was over and done with. Nope.. now, they are asking me for an additional $206.
I went to my health insurance page (the insurance I had at the time of the visit) and I checked the claims page. I checked the claim paid out against the original bill for services that Westfield charged me. From what I can tell, the $206 comes from a portion of the bill they never submitted as a claim to my insurance company. I checked for any additional claims and there was only the one for Westfield Hospital but the charges that Westfield Hospital put on the bill versus what was put in the claim do not match up.
What is my recourse here? Since the visit was back in April, can they still submit the claim or since they NEVER BILLED my insurance company until the claim was too old to process (at least it's my understanding you only have a certain amt of time from the time of visit to submit a claim and as far as I know, this part of the bill was never submitted to my insurance company). I can afford the money but I really would rather not pay for someone else's billing mistake.
