Ok, this will probably get me flamed somewhere, but I don't care. Like many companies, mine outsources their call centers to India (well, at least one of the call centers is there. There are other ones in Canada and New Jersey.) I don't think this should be done. I believe it to be a cheap exploitation of labor of people who are often desperate for jobs that pay any kind of wage and we just do it to save money and not because we actually care about people in other countries.
I hear from customers again and again "I hate talking to people who don't speak English well" and I can understand that. I am not one of those people who think that you must learn English if you live here but if you are interacting with people in a customer service environment-especially one where you must explain complicated things-you should be able to speak the language the person calling you speaks. Also, it squicks me out that, perhaps, these people aren't very well trained, aren't very well paid, etc. Globaliziation really has done no one favors here and I wish jobs weren't outsourced like this. There are so many people here that need jobs, that could do these jobs, and in the interest of money-not in the interest of good service on any level-outsourcing is done.
